Fabless Editions is an independent publisher exploring books that might never survive the economics of conventional publishing.
We develop concepts, research them, edit them, design them and bring them into the world using a combination of human judgement and artificial intelligence.
The name comes from the semiconductor industry. A fabless chip company designs chips without owning the expensive fabrication facilities used to manufacture them.
We take a similar approach to publishing: concentrate on the design and intellectual work, keep the infrastructure light, and make room for ideas that would otherwise be uneconomic to produce.
Why it exists
Traditional publishing is very good at publishing books that justify the machinery of traditional publishing.
There are other books. Small books. Odd books. Experimental books. Books with a narrow audience but a good reason to exist.
Fabless Editions is interested in those.
